Lori and Lee Win it All!

By Eric

It was a pretty dramatic finish for the Idol Pool this year, with the five participants who picked Lee Dewyze to win it all ending up with only a 3 point difference in their scores. The Pool isn’t about just picking the contestant to leave each week, it’s also about correctly predicting the winner, and Jon, Kori, Lori, Stacie and I all something awesome in Lee way back in the beginning.

Lori and Jon got a big boost in week 8 when they were the only ones who picked Aaron to get the boot – which helped them take the top two spots in the pool.

In the end, however, it was her consistent picks each week that led Lori to the top of the leaderboard and the $100 in prize money. Her empathetic nature and natural ear for on key singing helped her to become immortalized in the Idol Pool Hall of Fame.

Had Bowersox taken the lead, Stephanie would have taken the top spot for the second year in a row, with Greg following close behind.

The other most picked Idol contestant to win it all? Siobhan. Amber, Amanda, Beau, Johanna and Rich each thought the early front-runner would take it all. Rich even sent out an email rant about it.

Brenda and Kristen picked Big Mike to become the American Idol, and were probably pretty stoked when the judges used their save to keep him in the competition. Brenda had a big week in week 5 when she was the only participant to get any points for the week by correctly picking Katie to get booted.

Two people went with what I consider wildcard picks: G thought Aaron showed promise, while Jen thought Didi Benami had what it took.

In the end, Lori came out as number 1, Jon took the number 2 spot, and Kori, Stacie and I split the number 3 spot.

It was fun guys! Farewell to another Idol season, farewell to Simon, farewell to Lori, our current champion.

See you all next year for the X-Factor Pool! =)

Lori Waves Goodbye to Aaron as she Takes the Lead!

By Eric

Congratulations Jon and Lori, the only two who correctly picked Aaron as the singer to leave us this week! This puts Jon up in the double digits (with 10 points), and gives Lori a healthy lead (with 13 points) over the rest of us! Jon got the points, even after pulling the ol’ switcheroo on me in his email: “I think that Crystal is going home. Just kidding….put me down for Aaron.” Very tricky!

The only person to pick Big Mike this week was G, who grabbed a point due to his inclusion in the bottom two. Nice job G, you’ve got 8 points now!

Now the bad news…Thirteen of us picked Casey to go home last night, and since little Aaron is the one who got the boot, we’re all stuck with zilch.

Amber noted in her email: “My pick to go home is Casey.  Getting compared to a barnyard animal is never a good sign.  But I did like his lavendar shirt!”

Johanna said: “I think Casey goes home. I want to say Aaron, but all those 13-year-olds vote a million times for him each week. Aargh!

And from Stephanie: “Anyway, CASEY is going home tonight – it has to be CASEY!

Well gang, to me it looks like Lee Dewyze is poised for a win. I’m thinking a final battle between Mama Sox and Dewyze would be awesome!

What do you guys think?

See ya next week!

Surprise Siobhan Vote-Off, Lori and Brenda Tied for First!

By Eric

Surprise! Siobhan is leaving us, joining other “gone too soon” Idol contestants Danny Gokey, Chris Daughtry and Kevin Covais.

Five of us correctly identified Shibhan as the one leaving – Eric, G, Jen, Kori and Lori grabbed 2 points each, which puts Lori up at the top of our list tied for first place with Idol Expert Brenda!

Seven of us chose Big Mike to take a hike, including Amber, Beau, Greg, Jon, Rich, Stacie and Stephanie, who each nabbed 1 point for the week.

Beau wrote in his email: “Mark down Big Mike for me. Long live cinnabun. Shioban, ciabahn.” Dude, it’s Siobhan. =)

Amber wrote: “my pick to go home this week is Michael Lynche.  He’s probably the most consistently in tune singer but he’s always so damn cheesy!!

Stacie noted: “I haven’t been on my game and I lost the lead :-) So I’m going to say goodbye to big Mike and hope that I’m right and everyone else didn’t vote for him…

Everyone else picked Aaron to leave, and grabbed 0 points for the week, sorry guys!

And now, the email statement I most agreed with comes from Amber: “Not sure who the best was but the most ridiculous, ‘are the judges watching the same show I am” performance belongs to Siobhan.” Amber, you are so right! I hated her performance this week! I thought Shania gave her some sound advice that she didn’t even come close to following. I am not going to miss the screaming… =)

See you guys next week!

Two Leave! Brenda Snags Top Spot!

By Eric

Ladies and Gentlemen – Brenda is back.

Last year’s most successful picker has found her spot back at the top of the leaderboard. I’m excited, and yet, suspicious. I’ll have to make a trip out to San Diego soon to test her DVR for temporal tampering.

Next on the list are Greg, Lori and Stacie each with 7 points and one correct pick for the week: Andrew Garcia. Stacie (our former top picker) noted in her email: “Great show last night! This is getting hard!!!  I thought Lambert did a good job as a  judge, but it seems like they are having a hard time getting amazing famous people to come on the show….As for the worst two….that would have to be Andrew and Aaron.

They may have been the worst, but America apparently wanted to keep Aaron around a little longer.

Tied for third place we have Amanda, Amber, Eric, Jen, Johanna, Kristen, Rich and Stephanie. Amber, like most of us, also picked Andrew and Aaron to take a hike: “My picks to go home are the always dreadful Andrew Garcia and sweet, but lost Aaron Kelly.  He looked terrified!!

Next up, we have Beau, G and Jon with 5 points each, and Kori with 4.

As for the best performer of the week and Lambert-as-mentor reviews, I have some fun quotes from the emails, enjoy!

Stephanie: Surprisingly, I like Adam Lambert more now than I did when he was on the show. He seemed much more genuine and really tried to help the contestants. He definitely wasn’t afraid to give them advice – which I think they needed, and unfortunately some of the contestants didn’t listen… too bad for them!

Jon: I though Adam was great….I like him a lot. He should have won last
year. I liked Bowersox and Lee the best.

Rich: Lambert is a wanker, he repeated the same crap over and over.  He was coached to be a coach.  Between Miley and him they are looking desperate for mentors…As far as best, I wasn’t thrilled with any of them.  Lambert and Daughtry used to give me chills sometimes, these guys all suck ass.

Kori: I think Lee did the best, closely followed by Crystal. Those two are in a different league in my mind. I thought Adam Lambert did great!  He gave a lot of really good advice….much better than Miley Cyrus!!

G: I liked Lambert’s intro letting them know he was just a the beginning of his career, but knew where they were in the competition and I think he pin-pointed them as far as where they need to step it up…

Amber: It was hard to pick a best of the night because I felt they were all a bit underwhelming, but I’d have to give that to Lee, I’ll need a cough drop once I’m done singing, Dewyze.  He botched the lyrics but his performance seemed to be the only one to really reach the all important “current” status. And even though I think its way too soon to have Adam as a ‘mentor,’ he did a pretty good job.  He was honest with the contestants and when they followed his advice, it seemed to work out for the best.

It’s a Point Party! Everyone Gets Points!

By Eric

Everybody earned at least 1 point this week. Only five of us, however, correctly picked Didi Benami as the American Idol contestant who would be booted this week. Well done Brenda, G, Kori, Kristen and Rich! You guys are now in spitting distance of Stacie’s first place spot! Well, all of you except for G. Picking Didi last week didn’t work out so well, did it?

Our fearless leader, Stacie, was going back and forth this week between Didi and Katie. When she told me her pick, I noted: “If you’re right, you’ll be way in the lead!!! Good luck!!!” To which she responded, “Haha I’m not sure. A part of me thinks Didi but I just hated Katie’s outfit…I couldn’t watch her lol!

Picking the loser based on wardrobe? Interesting strategy. Not one I would have adopted, but then again, Katie was in the bottom three!

Everyone else in the pool picked Tim to go home, and we were rewarded with 1 adorable point each. Speaking of adorable, Amber wrote in her email: “My pick to go home this week is Tim Urban – as adorable (drink!) as he is, i think it’s his time to go.

So Tim Urban is still in the competition. Stupid Vote for the Worst website. I don’t want to believe that they have any effect on the Idol results, but looking at contestants like Tim and even Sanjaya from two years ago, I have to wonder…

See you all next week!

Two Points for Everyone but Two! Adios Paige!

By Eric

So that’s 2 points for Amanda, Amber, Brenda, Eric, Greg, Jen, Johanna, Jon, Kori, Kristen, Lori, Rich, Stacie and Stephanie. Let’s see….did I miss anyone?

Oh yeah! What the heck Beau and G? Beau picked Tim Urban (probably off the top of his head due to not watching) and G picked Didi…but why?

Our returning champion, Staice, is in first place again this week with 4 total points. She noted in her email: “Paige Miles goooooooo  home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is my vote fo’ sure!

Of course, my favorite email this week came from Amber: “Wow!  So many terrible performances to choose from!  I think a fun drinking game is to down a beer every time a performance is just horrible in every way – you’ll be drunk in no time!!

But my pick to go home this week is Paige Miles (best comment ever – “at least you didn’t fall down.”)

The craziest part for me was when they showed Richard and how he got to the island. When he met up with Jacob for the first time I………oh………wait. That’s Lost. =)

See you all next week!
